Casey Moore's Oyster House
About this place
Casey Moore's Oyster House occupies a house that was built in 1910 and lived in for decades by William and Mary Moeur, who were prominent in early Tempe. The home was renovated and turned into a restaurant in 1973, sold again in 1986 and has been Casey Moore's ever since. It stands at 850 S Ash Avenue, less than a mile from Arizona State University's Tempe campus.
A haunted reputation
Ghost stories go back decades here. According to the restaurant's lore, William and Mary have both been seen, sometimes dancing in the upstairs bedroom. Whether or not you believe it, the old house gives the stories a natural setting.
What to eat and drink
Despite the name, the menu is broad: hot wings, steaming French onion soup, salads, sandwiches, pasta and entrées. Oysters are the namesake, with oyster shooters, fried oysters by the half dozen or dozen and Oysters Rockefeller, and the menu also lists crab cakes, fish and chips and tacos. The French onion soup is a favorite of regulars.
Patio and happy hour
The patio is where many people end up, for socializing, lawn games and a drink. Happy hour runs 3 to 7 PM Monday through Friday and 11 AM to 4 PM on weekends.
